Architecture
and Building Stencils : The Empire State Building
Bold colourful stencilling by talented New York based artist Demi Theoharis
The
Empire State Building succeeded to the title of the world's tallest
building in 1931. It is 1,250 feet tall and has 102 storeys. It
is an example of the skyscrapers of the glittering inter war era
before the sobriety of post Depression New Deal America. The modernist
decorative elements of the building are influenced by Art Deco
styling, but the paring down of the building to provide an effective
functional mass is consistent with reductive Modernist ideas.
This stencil comes in two parts. The upper part is illustrated.
Put together, this stencil is 5' 6" tall and 21" wide
at the base.
